XM1140 40 mm x 46 Impulse Day & Night Marker

Based on the proven DM159 cartridge, the XM1140 40 mm x 46 grenade is a non-lethal impulse cartridge, which, using patented "day & night" marking technology enables subsequent identification in all light conditions of target hit by the round. A "product improved" version of the successful Rheinmetall line of non-lethal "sponge" grenades, the XM1140 marks targets it hits with a patented chemiluminescent liquid that is visible in the dark, both with the naked eye and with night vision equipment.

The projectile's driving band is made of plastic in order to minimize barrel wear and enhance accuracy. The cartridge case is composed of aluminium and contains the propulsion unit and its associated primer and propellant charge. The unique, patented high/low-pressure chamber system allows a controlled gas pressure build up, resulting in constant muzzle velocity and excellent target accuracy. Additionally, this system reduces the recoil for the user. The XM1140 is ideal for use as a non-lethal suppression tool during riot and crowd control situations, and provides security forces with the capability to safely tag and mark ringleaders, troublemakers or other targets of interest.
